Orlando, Florida – The Moving & Storage Institute honored H. Daniel McCollister with the MSI Lifetime Achievement Award for Distinguished Service in an awards ceremony that was part of the American Trucking Associations’ Moving and Storage Conference’s Annual Meeting.
“Dan’s extensive service record demonstrates the very best of the moving and storage industry,” said MSI Chairman Jack Griffin, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer at Atlas World Group. “He earned this award for his efforts encouraging collaboration throughout the industry, advancing customer service initiatives, and innovating technology.”
McCollister is president of the McCollister Transportation Group, an agent for United Van Lines in Burlington, New Jersey, and Chairman Emeritus of the UniGroup Board.
The Lifetime Achievement Award for Distinguished Service is the moving industry’s most prestigious symbol of leadership, innovation, integrity and service, awarded to individuals who have built a reputation for professional excellence and made significant contributions leading to overall industry growth and advancement. McCollister’s award was announced in 2019, but due to the pandemic, this meeting was the first opportunity to present it in person.
“I remember as a young boy watching my dad, counting the days until I could go to work with him. In high school, I used to cut class to go help out on the trucks. I worked hard to learn about the family company because I was fascinated with the trucks, the people, and everything about the moving business,” he said during his final speech as UniGroup chairman
Under his leadership, UniGroup Information Technology released new technology to help reach more customers. This includes Quotes-To-Go, which allows agency sales representatives to offer customers real-time pricing, side-by-side moving quote comparisons, and eAcceptance to start the moving process without printing paperwork. McCollister also inspired UniGroup’s MoveRescue program, which became an industry standard in providing counseling and remedies for consumers who have bad experiences with unscrupulous companies.
After over 75 years in business, McCollister Transportation Group has 1,000 full-time associates throughout 16 full-service facilities. For decades, hundreds of corporations, families, and the U.S. military have relied on McCollister’s for specialty transportation and logistics needs. McCollister and McCollister’s Transportation are also active in the local community, working with Habitat for Humanity, City of Burlington Housing, the YMCA, and the Home for Aged Women.
