Highway Robbery: Predatory Towing Practices and How to Combat Them
Webinar Description:
Predatory towing: what nightmares are made of for motor carriers, freight brokers, shippers, and their respective customers alike. Following a motor vehicle accident, law enforcement agencies engage towing companies to perform towing and recovery services, leaving the motor carrier to foot the bill for services performed by a company that the motor carrier had no input in hiring. With increasing frequency, towing and recovery companies engaged by law enforcement are sticking motor carriers with inflated, excessive, and sometimes fraudulent invoices for these police-initiated towing and recovery services. Worse, oftentimes the towing and recovery companies are holding tractors, trailers, and cargo hostage unless and until excessive invoices are paid, all while continuing to increase the invoices by adding daily storage charges.
This webinar will provide a background on predatory towing issues and explore strategies and best practices for both avoiding and combatting predatory towing practices.
