What is biometric data and how is used? This Webinar will focus on current trends in biometric privacy laws, beginning with a review of the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA) and an exploration of the risks created by such a privacy law and the potential for class action litigation brought against companies during business in Illinois. The Webinar will also discuss current developments in privacy laws in other states and federally and provide practical best practices for compliance and risk mitigation moving forward.
About the Presenters
Dan Marks, Partner, Benesch
Dan focuses his practice on US and international transactions. His transactional practice includes counseling clients in connection with mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, IP and technology transfers, distribution agreements, licensing agreements, sponsorship and endorsement agreements, and business process outsourcing matters across a variety of technologies.
Dan also handles international trademark clearance, prosecution, and enforcement, including developing and implementing cost-effective approaches to multi-jurisdictional clearance and protection.
Luke Schaetzel, Associate, Benesch
Luke has experience analyzing privacy matters as well as working on IP and technology transaction matters; and conducting privacy work related to federal cybersecurity regulations, changes in U.S. state privacy laws, and foreign jurisdiction privacy laws. A data protection lawyer by trade, Luke represents clients in various capacities, including negotiating technology transactions and assisting companies commercialize and protect their intellectual property. Additionally, Luke has experience navigating the growing and complex U.S. state data protection regime, as well as other data protection laws and regulations such as HIPAA, COPPA, Canada’s PIPEDA, and Europe’s General Data Protection Regulation. Luke has represented numerous clients, with domestic and international business operations, in developing and implementing compliant data security and privacy policies and procedures.
