Washington – ATA Moving & Storage Conference Executive Director Dan Hilton sent a letter to Defense Personal Property Management Office (DPMO) Director Robert Dawson to request improved communication between industry and TRANSCOM.
“With peak moving season nearly upon us, the communication between TRANSCOM and industry is vital now more than ever. As small to medium-sized moving companies make decisions on hiring, making key investments and reserving appropriate capacity, this lack of transparency continues to wreak havoc on an industry already experiencing exceptional upheaval and uncertainty,” Hilton wrote.

RE: Request for Improved Communication between Industry and TRANSCOM
Dear Mr. Dawson,
On behalf of the American Trucking Associations’ Moving and Storage Conference ATA-MSC, we are requesting your office provide the moving and storage industry with clearer, more timely and more consistent notification. This specific request is made because of the contractor’s reported challenges executing a number of moves during the start of peak moving-season.
Recently, MSC members who participate in military moves have been hearing rumors that nearly 6,000 shipments have been transferred from the GHC to the DP3 but have received no official word from TRANSCOM. As members of the DP3 supply chain, it is imperative that moving companies participating in this program be made aware on a more consistent basis, in order to reduce any negative impacts this could have on service members and their moves. Our members require advance notice of the transferred shipments in order to meet the increased demand.
We would request TRANSCOM’s plans to address these sudden changes and what the projected allocation between the DP3 and the GHC system of moves will be for peak moving season, as well as request improved notification from TRANSCOM specifically as it relates to the needs of service members and the movement of their household goods.
With peak-moving season nearly upon us, the communication between TRANSCOM and industry is vital now more than ever. As small-to-medium sized moving companies make decisions on hiring, making key investments and reserving appropriate capacity, as needed, this lack of transparency continues to wreak havoc on an industry already experiencing exceptional upheaval and uncertainty.
Sincerely,
Daniel Hilton
