Moving and Storage Industry Expresses Strong Support for Duffy to Lead DOT

Jan 15, 2025

Washington – ATA Moving & Storage Conference Executive Director Dan Hilton sent a letter to the Senate Commerce Committee endorsing former Representative Sean Duffy to serve as Department of Transportation Secretary.

“On behalf of the American Trucking Associations’ Moving and Storage Conference (ATA-MSC) and the small-and-medium-sized companies that make up the moving and storage industry in every community across the nation, I write to offer my full support for the nomination of Sean Duffy to be Secretary of the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT),” Hilton wrote.

Hilton emphasized the vital role of a strong DOT, highlighting the need for robust oversight to protect consumers from fraudulent moving operators and ensuring a reliable infrastructure for America’s movers.

“As Congress and the Department begin work on surface transportation reauthorization, strong leadership is critical,” Hilton added. He also underscored the importance of advancing legislation like the Household Goods Shipping Consumer Protection Act to empower regulators and protect consumers from rogue operators.

ATA President and CEO Chris Spear previously sent a separate letter backing Rep. Duffy's nomination in advance of his confirmation hearing scheduled for Wednesday, January 15th.  ATA-MSC joins the broader ATA in calling for the Commerce members to report his nomination out of the committee favorably so that the full Senate can confirm him soon after President-elect Trump is sworn into office.
