America Moves Because of Truck Drivers

Sep 16, 2025

America’s $30 trillion economy depends on the safe, reliable movement of goods. And behind every product on a store shelf, every package delivered to a doorstep, every meal served at a dinner table, there is a truck driver who made it happen. Quite simply: without trucking, we would have nothing.

This week, as we mark National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, our country has a chance to pause and say thank you to the 3.4 million professional drivers who keep America moving. These men and women embody responsibility, commitment, and service to others. They deliver the food we eat, the medicine that keeps us healthy, the fuel that powers our cars and homes, the building materials that shape our communities, and countless other essentials that touch every aspect of daily life.

All told, truckers move nearly three-quarters of the nation’s freight, making them the indispensable link in our economy’s supply chain.

Driving a truck is not easy. It means long hours, time away from family, and daily personal sacrifice. Yet drivers take pride in their work because they know it matters for every American family. Without them, shelves would go bare, fuel pumps would run dry, and hospitals would wait for critical supplies.

Fortunately, America’s truck drivers never stop. Not during a pandemic. Not in the depths of a supply chain crisis. Not even in the face of natural disasters. They show up, they deliver, and they strengthen communities, supporting local businesses along their routes and delivering relief supplies when disaster strikes. They are also on the front lines of safety, logging billions of miles every year while maintaining one of the best safety records on the road.

Showing gratitude doesn’t require much. A handshake, a wave, or a simple message of support can mean the world to a driver. But big gestures matter too. Policymakers must show real appreciation by addressing our country’s truck parking shortage and other issues impacting the men and women who keep our economy moving forward. We’re thankful to count the Trump administration as a staunch advocate for America’s truck drivers and their indispensable role in keeping our daily life moving forward.

Truck drivers don’t ask for much. They ask for the chance to do their jobs safely and efficiently. What they give us in return is everything. Our reliance on truck drivers is absolute, and our appreciation should be too. This week and every week we’re thankful for their essential service to our nation.
